Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) engages Student Representative Councils (SRCs) in a consultative workshop on the Protection of Enrolled Learners (PEL) Policy and other key issues regarding the role of learners in quality assurance. The engagement forms part of BQA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen stakeholder participation and enhance the quality assurance framework within Botswana’s education and training sector.

When welcoming the students, Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. Ofentse Disang emphasised the importance of student involvement in shaping the education system. He noted that learners are not only beneficiaries of the system but also critical stakeholders whose perspectives are essential in developing responsive, inclusive, and effective policies.

Objectives of the Engagement

The workshop aimed to:

  • Provide a platform for constructive dialogue between BQA and student leadership

  • Enhance awareness and understanding of the Protection of Enrolled Learners (PEL) Policy

  • Equip SRCs with knowledge on complaints handling and resolution processes

  • Strengthen the role of SRCs in supporting quality assurance within institutions

  • Promote learner participation in safeguarding the quality and integrity of education and training

Key Focus Areas

The workshop covered key aspects central to learner welfare and institutional accountability, including:

  • Overview of the Institutional Audit function

  • Protection of Enrolled Learners (PEL) Policy

  • Complaints handling and resolution processes

  • The role of Student Representative Councils in supporting quality assurance within education and training providers

Through this engagement, BQA continues to promote a transparent, learner-centred approach to quality assurance, recognising the importance of collaboration between the regulator, education and training institutions, and learners themselves.
