Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) this week continued its stakeholder engagement on the Botswana Senior Secondary Education (BSSE) Draft Qualification and the draft Quality Assurance Standard for the Registration and Accreditation of General Education Schools.
The consultation brought together key stakeholders from government, industry and other relevant institutions. The engagement formed part of efforts to ensure that the proposed qualification and quality assurance standards are developed through broad stakeholder consultation.
It also sought to ensure alignment with Botswana's national development priorities, human capital needs and the changing demands of further education, training and employment. During the meeting, stakeholders were provided with a strategic overview of the proposed quality standards. Discussions focused on obtaining high-level input on the skills, competencies and attributes required of future-ready graduates, as well as validating the relevance of the proposed qualification pathways, subjects and progression routes.
The consultation also sought stakeholder perspectives on the quality standards required to support the effective delivery of General Education and ensure that learners receive education that is relevant, quality assured and responsive to their future needs.
A key area of discussion was the role that partnerships can play in learner development. Stakeholders explored opportunities for collaboration between government, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and other institutions in areas such as career guidance, mentorship, workplace exposure and skills development. Such partnerships are critical in ensuring that learners are exposed to opportunities and experiences that support their transition from education into further training and the world of work.
The engagement further provided an opportunity to identify potential challenges that may arise during the implementation of the proposed reforms and to consider measures that could facilitate their effective adoption.
Importantly, the consultation aimed to build stakeholder ownership and consensus around the proposed quality standard. BQA recognises that the successful implementation of education reforms requires collaboration and shared commitment among key stakeholders.
Through consultations such as this, BQA continues to create platforms for meaningful stakeholder engagement in the development of qualifications and quality assurance frameworks. The input gathered will contribute towards strengthening Botswana's education system and supporting the development of globally competitive human capital equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies required for the future.
