RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the process of identifying, assessing and recognizing what a person already knows and can do, however learned (including formal, informal and non-formal), without taking them through formal or additional learning process.

Benefits

  • RPL is regarded as a critical mechanism for achieving equity and acceleration of access to education and training.
  • It is an integral part for lifelong learning systems as it promotes alternate pathways to acquiring qualifications.
  • RPL promotes personal and economic growth

Botswana Qualifications Authority, amongst other roles, helps to create an environment and framework within which RPL is to operate. A National RPL policy has been developed and will be made available to the public as soon as it is ready for publication.

Learners who wish to be assessed through Recognition of Prior Learning should kindly contact the Education and Training Provider(s) offering the relevant qualification for guidance.
